Sydney Qualifies for the 37th U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur!
Sydney Gillespie is following her passion for golf! I first met Sydney roughly ten years ago when her grandfather Robert (Bob) Longenecker brought her in to the shop when she was at Regis high school. We got her fit and she was on the State Championship Team in 2014 and 2015, and Central Region Champion in 2014! She went to Colorado Christian Academy where she was CCU Freshman golfer of the year in 2016. From there, Sydney went to Creighton University where, by Sydney’s take, she had an “average” college career. After college, she continued to dabble in competitive golf but her career as a Labor and Delivery RN would sometimes get in the way. Sydney would continue to come see us at least twice a year to make sure all of her equipment was in good order and matched her as her strength and talent grew.
Unfortunately, her long-time mentor and grandfather, Robert, developed cancer in December, 2023 and passed away this May. Sydney and her grandfather were very close and shared golf as a passion. Over the course of his illness, they had some serious discussions and Sydney decided to play more at the professional level. She embarked on a strength and conditioning program with Elite Speed and we worked hard with her to improve distance while maintaining accuracy and consistency.
And it has paid off as she just qualified for the 37th U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur this September. She continues to play state events and is off to Utah this weekend. Congratulations and good luck following your passion, Sydney!
As Sydney loves to say, “It’s a golf thing”!
