Fairway 3 Wood is Dead! Long Live the 3 Wood off the Tee…

Hitting a 3 wood off the fairway is dead!  But, hitting a 2 or 3 wood off the tee is crazy good these days.

Why You Struggle With A 3 Wood off the Fairway

There could be several reasons why you struggle hitting your 3 wood off the fairway:

  1.  The stock shaft is too light and/or too flexible causing fat, thin or topped shots.
  2. Your club speed is not fast enough to get the ball in the air as high as you need to get proper distance.

The reason you may have not gone to a higher lofted fairway wood is you are afraid you will lose distance.  Well, fear no more!

Today’s higher lofted fairway woods are much hotter and more forgiving than ever!  Every major manufacturer is making a higher lofted fairway wood to replace a traditional 15 degree 3 wood.  Some call them a 3HL for 3 Higher Loft, usually 16.5 degrees.  Ping for the first time is offering a true 17 degree 4 wood!  And, there are several tricks we can do to help get your distance AND loft.  We can make the higher lofted fairway club a little longer to get back your distance.  And sometimes, a lighter, softer tipped shaft will create a little more pop.  We can figure all that out in a fitting by getting the right loft, shaft length and flex for YOUR game.  Even Tour Players are playing 7 woods!

So if you need a little more height and distance from your fairway woods, get fit for a higher lofted club.  You can even go to an 11 wood!
