We know that with hybrid clubs you can have a love/hate relationship. In our opinion, the reason is that most off-the-rack hybrid shafts are too long, too light and too soft of flex for the average golfer. See our related blog on Finding the Right Hybrid Shaft here…
And, remember, we can re-shaft your current hybrid(s) to make them perform soo…. much better! So, let’s find the best shaft for you based upon your strength (distance), desired trajectory and fit to your current irons:
Strongest Players – 3 Hybrid – 240+ Yards
The strongest players typically play a driver, 3 or 4 wood and a 17 to 19 degree hybrid. We have had great experience fitting these low lofted hybrids in a mid trajectory steel shaft that is slightly lighter than their iron shafts. If that still feels too heavy, we recommend going to a 100 to 110 gram graphite shaft based upon the golfers desired trajectory.
Brand | Shaft | Weight | Trajectory |
Project X | Rifle Steel | 115 gr | Mid |
OBAN | CT 115 Steel | 115 gr | Mid |
OBAN | Kiyoshi Purple 105 | 105 gr | Low |
KBS | Tour Prototype 105 | 105 gr | Mid |
OBAN | Kiyoshi White 95 | 95 gr | Mid |
Mitsubishi | OT Hybrid 100 | 100 gr | Mid |
Graphite Design | Tour AD DI 95 and 105 | 95-105 gr | Mid-High |

Strong Players – 3 Hybrid 210 – 240 Yards
We typically fit these golfers in graphite shafts that are slightly lighter than their iron shafts. Trajectory is important as some golfers in this range use long hybrids on longer par 3 holes. You want a hybrid shaft that helps get the ball in the air and allows the shots to land softly on the green. The strong player can still launch a low-mid shaft at a good trajectory.
Brand | Shaft | Weight | Trajectory |
OBAN | Kiyoshi Black 90 | 90 gr | Low-Mid |
KBS | Tour Prototype 95 | 95 gr | Mid |
Graphite Design | Tour AD IZ 85 and 95 | 85-95 gr | Low |
Fujikura | ATMOS TS Black 95 | 95 gr | Low-Mid |
KBS | Tour Prototype 85 | 85 gr | Mid-High |
Project X | HZRDUS Black 6.5 | 85 gr | Mid |
ACCRA | FX 2.0 300H | 88 gr | Mid |

Average Distance – 4 Hybrid 175 – 200 Yards
This is where the majority of our golfers fall. Unfortunately golfers that have bought hybrids off-the-rack are playing with 60 to 70 gram shafts that are also way too flexible. This causes duck hooks, high fades, topped or fat shots. With a slightly heavier 75 to 85 gram shaft and a little stiffer flex, accuracy and consistency will improve dramatically!
Brand | Shaft | Weight | Trajectory |
OBAN | Devotion 85 TR | 85 gr | Mid |
Fujikura | ATMOS TS Blue 85 | 85 gr | Mid-High |
Graphite Design | Tour AD IZ 85 | 85 gr | Low |
ACCRA | FX 2.0 200H | 88 gr | Mid-High |
KBS | Tour Prototype 75 and 85 | 75 – 85 gr | Mid-High |
Project X | EvenFlow RipTide 85 | 85 gr | Mid |
ACCRA | i80 Tour Hybrid | 83 gr | Mid-High |
Paderson | KG860-HUT | 85 gr | Mid-High |
Mitsubishi | C6 80 Hybrid/Iron | 80 gr | Mid-High |

Shorter Distance Players – 4 Hybrid < 175 Yards
This category is where we also use combination hybrid/iron shafts so that the weight of the hybrid shaft is very similar to the weight of the iron shafts the golfer is playing. Especially useful for slower swings we see from some of our junior, senior and lady golfers.
Brand | Shaft | Weight | Trajectory |
OBAN | Isawa Red 70 | 75 gr | Mid-High |
Fujikura | ATMOS TS Red 75 | 75 gr | Mid-High |
Graphite Design | Tour AD DI HY 75 | 75 gr | High |
ACCRA | FX 2.0 100H | 76 gr | Mid-High |
KBS | Tour Prototype 65 and 75 | 65 – 75 gr | Mid-High |
